Just an hour outside Santiago, the road opens into Cajón del Maipo — a dramatic canyon where the Andes show off their wild side. Think rushing rivers, hidden waterfalls, wide valleys, towering peaks, and the crisp mountain air that makes every twist of the throttle feel alive. We’ll saddle up on our Royal Enfield Classic 500s — vintage-style machines that were built for roads like these. From smooth tarmac to winding gravel tracks, they handle it all with style, turning the ride itself into half the adventure. Along the way, we’ll fuel up like real riders do — stopping for breakfast in a local biker bar that has become a legend among Santiago’s motorheads. Out in the high Andes, we’ll spread out a picnic with local flavors, surrounded by epic mountain views that make you forget the rest of the world even exists. On the way back, there’s one last treat: a stop at Chile’s most famous chocolate maker. The perfect sweet ending to a day packed with pure riding fun, mountain legends, and the unbeatable freedom of exploring the Andes on two wheels.
The Route
Santiago → San José de Maipo
We fire up the engines and leave the city behind, heading straight for the entrance of the legendary Cajón del Maipo. Our first stop: a true biker’s hideout. Over steaming mugs of coffee, tea, and fresh empanadas straight from a wood-fired oven, we fuel up the right way before the adventure begins.
2. San José de Maipo → Embalse El Yeso
With spirits high, we roll deeper into the valley. The road twists through roaring rivers, snow-dusted peaks, and tunnels carved into the mountains — remnants of the region’s old railway. At over 2,000 meters, the shimmering turquoise waters of Embalse El Yeso await us, framed by the raw beauty of the Andes.
3. Embalse El Yeso → San Alfonso
Here, at one of Chile’s most iconic reservoirs, fed by the meltwater of the Andes, we pause to take in the magic — perfect for photos that capture the scale and silence of this high-altitude world. From there, we wind our way down to our favorite picnic spot, where the mountains themselves feel like old friends sharing the table.
4. San Alfonso → Santiago
The ride back to the city is anything but routine. We trade horsepower for chocolate power with a stop at one of Chile’s finest artisan chocolatiers — a sweet farewell to the valley. Only then do we throttle up and return to the heartbeat of Santiago, with the taste of the Andes still fresh in our minds.

Motorbike
Ride one of our legendary Royal Enfield Classic 500 or Bullets and dive into the magic of the orad to the typical sound of its single cylinder engine.
Picnic
We stop high in the Andes for a relaxed picnic surrounded by mountains — complete with an ice-cold non-alcoholic beer. Not a bad place for lunch!
The Route
Leaving Santiago behind, we follow the road deep into Cajón del Maipo, where the city quickly gives way to winding mountain roads, dramatic valleys and the towering peaks of the Andes.
As we climb higher, the landscape becomes increasingly wild and remote. The final stretch takes us onto gravel before we reach the spectacular Embalse El Yeso, surrounded by rugged mountains at around 2,500 metres above sea level.
Here, we park the Royal Enfields, take in the views and enjoy a relaxed picnic with an ice-cold non-alcoholic beer — before getting back on the bikes for the ride towards Santiago.
